Ulysses on Mars: attempting sublime things
–
The Matiff film competition, whose motto is “attempting sublime things”, invites contestants to tell stories in which humanity’s audacity and creativity emerge in facing challenges and adversities.
The city of Matera is the story of the fall and rebirth, which becomes a universal paradigm of life on Earth. It is the path, along the crest of time, that man has taken to survive and in difficult conditions, being the city located in a semi-arid area of the Mediterranean, the problem of water was primary. The intricate network of open-air or underground canals that flowed into connected tanks and cisterns, divers, neviere, demonstrate a strategic engineering work that earned it recognition as a Unesco world heritage site. The Matiff winks at Mars by osmosis: Matera and Mars, whose assonance seems significant to us, also due to the lack of that element associated with organic life: water.
